Last Ladies Ride of the Season

Hi Ladies!

I can't believe it, I don't want it to be true but tonight will be our last ride for the season.    From thunderstorms to new territory to first time hill climbers to new faces to new bikes (yay, Deb!), it has been a great season of riding with you all.

I do have a route planned for tonight which you can view HERE.  We can chat when we're together about the possibility of riding for frozen yogurt or even dinner after.  It will probably be the chilliest evening we've had, so bring an extra layer in case.  Also make sure to have a blinky, as we might cut it close on the daylight.

Can't wait to see you all!

Again, thank you all for making it such an incredible season of riding bikes!

Ladies Ride

Hi Ladies!

Those storm clouds have passed and it looks like it will be a great night for riding.  Unfortunately I won't be able to join you because I'll be working our TENT SALE.  Bring your wallets because we are having some great deals on everything in the store.  Now is the time to jump on incredible pricing on bikes and apparel.

But have no fear, the ride is still happening!  Allison will take you out, so please still come ready to ride for 5:30PM.  If you can park in the parking lot next to Pride it would be much appreciated because we are limited on parking due to the large tent in the parking lot.

I look forward to seeing all your smiling faces tonight.  Maybe I'll have to sneak away...don't tell.

CEC Women

Hi Ladies!

What a great ride we had last week, even with the two flats.  It's good to have those experiences in a safe environment to get us use to what it is like changing flats on the road.  If anyone ever has questions about changing flats or wants some practice, stop by the shop and we'll gladly show you how.  Or better yet, hang out for a little bit and we might just have a customer visit us for a flat repair.  The roads around this area can be tough with the amount of glass and debris.

So what's on tap for tomorrow - another awesome ride!  You can view the route HeRe.  Looks like we have a 60% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow evening.  We'll all keep an eye on the weather and if need be, cancel the ride by 4:30 PM.  Call the shop or check facebook for updates.

See you tomorrow!

MONDAY'S RIDES & IMPORTANT PARKING NOTICE!!!

Hi everyone!  We hope you are all as psyched as us to get out and pedal our faces off tonight!

Before we get into the routes for the tonight's rides, we wanted to let everyone know about the parking situation that we have for tonight...

Fat Trax is having a HUGE demo/event tonight in the Comp Edge/Fat Trax parking lot. That means that there will be ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING! If you plan on riding with us tonight, we ask that you park in the Pride far parking lot across the street from the shop. DO NOT park on the street, please.  Keep your eyes peeled for the CEC ambassadors to help direct everything and find out where we are meeting prior to the ride.

Now it's time for the routes!

CEC Ladies - Time for some HILLS!

Hi Ladies,

So, I have to say, this has been an awesome season of riding with all of you.  It's been so great seeing new faces and most of your faces EVERY WEEK!  I'm totally impressed with how you've all grown, and there is thankfully, more days of riding.

For our evening ride we'll be facing some pretty fun hills.  Yes, I said fun.  It's going to be great exploring some new territory for our Wednesday night ride.  We are taking the mileage down to just over 25 so we can ease into some of the climbs.  Check the ride here.

We unfortunately might see some rain in the afternoon, so stay tuned to CEC facebook page or call the shop by 4:30pm.

See you all soon!

Monday & Tuesday's Rides!

Hi everyone!  Here's the plans for Monday and Tuesday:

First up, here's the route for the B Group:  This is our recreational paced ride.  Averaging about 16mph with a NO-DROP policy.

Up next is the A & B groups.  This week we are going to change it up a bit.  We'll be combining the groups and heading across the Connecticut River.  In order to make the entire ride before the sun goes down, we'll be looking to average about 20mph.  Although we will be keeping the NO-DROP policy, we ask that you all make sure that you know the route ahead of time.

And finally, ROYCE'S RIDE!  Here's the route...

As usual if FULL of hills!  Be prepared to climb!  We'll be looking to average about 20mph on this ride, so there's a good chance that we're going to endure a little suffering.

Hope to see you all out there!

CEC Women's Ride

Hello Ladies!

We had a GREAT ride last week!  I'm so impressed with how much you've all grown from the first ride of the season.  The pace is becoming more consistent, and I'm seeing the confidence grow.  It's so awesome!  Keep up the hard work!

For tomorrow we have another great ride planned.  If you would like to view it ahead of time, click HeRe.  As of right now there's a chance of thunderstorms developing in the afternoon/evening.  Argh, a CHANCE!  We will keep a close eye on the radar and if need be, call the ride by 4-4:30pm (depending on how if-y it is).  Check to CEC Facebook page or call the EL shop (413.737.7495).  If it looks cloudy we will probably still meet around 5:15pm and make a final call around 5:30pm.

Hope to see you all tomorrow!

Root 66 Series Race #8: Windham

Comp Edge raced a world class course this past weekend, at the 8th Root 66 race in Windham, NY.  The day before, the Pros took on the same course during the 8th UCI World Cup.

"It was different than Pats Peak because it was more consistent... climbs were gradual fire road climbs with a couple single track short climbs.  You could really just get in a rhythm climbing. The descents were wicked fast and fun...can't wait to do it again next year. The fan turnout was awesome! We also hung out and watched the men's WC DH final Sunday afternoon... they are so FAST!"      -Tina, 1st place Cat 1 women

Root 66 Series Race #7: Grafton Ponds

With a different venue and unchristened course, Putney transformed into something entirely new this year - the 1st Ever West Hill Shop/Grafton Ponds MTB Race.  'Woof' became 'Wow'.  A bluebird day in Vermont with dry air, green mountainous scenery, and a killer course made Grafton Ponds one to remember.   The course was dry, rideable, and extremely fun.

Thom (CyclingDirt) says Hello (video)

Comp Edge again brought the heat, with fourteen entries and nine top five finishes. Go, team!

Root 66 Series Race #6: Pat's Peak

This past weekend was Root 66 Race #6: Pat's Peak in Henniker, NH.  A beautiful bluebird day, the mountain was covered with bikes.

It's probably safe to say that Pat's Peak was the most challenging course in the Root 66 series so far - for both its technical and aerobic difficulty.  Depending on who you ask, it's either really hard, or really rad.  We're pretty sure it's both.

On the way up, racers traversed a ski hill - 870' of glorious elevation gain per lap.  There were some rocks, there were some rolls, there were some new singletrack switchback sections that even the pros were off and pushing on.  A couple of work road grunts rounded it out.  On the way down, riders were rewarded with a fair amount of awesome gnar.  Fun switchbacks and the occasional rock wall kept things interesting, with one notorious rock drop midway down.  A full on braappp* section at the end made all the climbing worthwhile.

*if you have the strong urge to make dirt bike noises on the way down, you know it's good.

CEC rode well, taking twelve top five spots at Pat's Peak.  Congrats to all on racing and finishing a tough course.  David and Ricky kept each other company on the Cat 1 Singlespeed Open podium, Dave Powell and Paul shared the podium in Cat 2 50+, and Jen and Tina shared the stage in Cat 2 19-34.  We like to hang out together.  Nathan Orie crushed Cat 2 singlespeed for a 2nd place finish.  Brett had the gears covered, taking 2nd in Cat 2 30-39, with Dan Walker close behind in 4th.

"The best memory I have was on the first lap downhill section when I got off my bike to look at a drop. I stood there and threw a rock down it to see the general fall line. After much inspection I decided to walk down"  -Phil Wong, 3rd place Pro/1 (Riverside)

Women's Ride

The plan is to ride the route planned for last week.  You can refer back to that post to check it out.

Hope to see you all tonight!

Root 66 Series Race #5: Domnarski Farm

Ricky, finishing with a smile
This past Sunday was the fifth race in the Root 66 series - Domnarski Farm.  There were new faces, more podiums, and some expansive mud puddles to play in.

Domnarski is a mix of technical climbing, fast rocky double track, some fun twisty singletrack, and a couple of interesting wet spots*.  It's a well-run race, and the Domnarskis are more than welcoming, with a bike wash and pond to swim in afterward open to all.  It's also one of the only races to reward racers with straight-up cash.  Despite three flats, one superman, and some impromptu tree encounters, the CEC team ended the day with twelve top-five finishes.

*'Floating skinnies, short rock bridges, and puddles you couldn't necessarily see the bottom of this time around post-rain.  Spicy!
Royce, tearing it up
Sean Rudzinsky laid down the power in his first mountain bike race, and won the men's Cat 2 30-39 race with a sub-hour lap.

New team members Tina and Brett Severson brought big smiles and killer legs.  Tina took 1st in the women's Cat 2 19-34 category, and Brett was 5th of 43 men in Cat 2 30-39.  Welcome, guys!

Jen was poised for a 3rd place finish in Cat 2 ladies when she got rad airing out around the Tree of Death, and flatted.  Never a quitter, she fixed it up, and finished just one spot behind in 4th. Badass.

Jen and Pam, looking good crossing the line
